- Go into Control Panels, then Add Hardware. Add com ports (so you have
- 1-4 installed). Go into System, then Device Manager. Double click on
- com 3, then disable it (by "unchecking" the "use this device with
- xxxxxxxx configuration..." box). Do the same for com 4. Also do the
- same for com 1 unless your mouse is there. (By the way, the modem
- should be out of the machine and uninstalled from your device
- manager). Re-install the modem with only the com ports that are
- already in use and com 2 available. *You must aknowledge that the
- other com ports exist, but have to specifically tell Windows to ignore
- them.* When you re-install the modem, windows ought to recognize it.

- Cardinal PnP modems try com 3 first, then com 4. They will only use
- others if it's first choices are unavailable (this limitation does not
- exist in Windows3.x because the Intel PlugPlay drivers let you force
- other configurations).
